Hello all,
Just a quick email to let you know how we're going.
We've arrived ok, definately not used to long plane flights though I have now caught up on a few movies I hadn't seen. (Airline food.....what can you say)
We've been doing things non stop and haven't even started our tour yet. The traffic is amazing, looks like it total chaos and out of control but for all the lack of road rules, we have yet to see an accident and all the cars look like new (except the tuk tuks and trucks). (maybe Canberra drivers should come over here and learn how to drive and not hit each other)
So far we've done a fair bit of the touristy thing, visiting Wats (temples) on Thursday morning and trying to stay out of as many tourist trap shops as possible.
We then went on an amazing bike tour that afternoon and saw the not so touristy side of Bangkok which was a real eye opener (found out where they make the gardening gloves that Bunnings sell)
You should be able to have a look where we went and our riding conditions/ability at the following address http://www.realasia.net/1609.htm, the man who runs the tour is pretty amazing, originally from the Netherlands (and lived just about every country in Europe at least once), he's been in Thailand now for 12 years and mainly runs a business helping farangs (foreigners) to come to Thailand for cheap operations with these tours as a sideline.
We did the super tourist thing today by going to the floating markets (insert James bond theme here) and trying not to get too much stuff offered to us. Then on to the Cobra show to watch guys try to get themselves bitten for our amusement, the elephant and Crocodile shows....same intent (though with a warmup magic act) Next was the 'Traditional' Thai dancing/folk show, all amazing and touristy. Then it was on home with our insane driver (want's to drive rally or F1 we think, if he'd hit a few cars I would have said Supercars instead)
We're back at the hotel now and have booked a Thai massage, so we're off to dinner and back in time for that.
Till we update you next time
